How to Create an XP Boot Disk that will Start
XP fully (not dos).
Most of the XP boot / start up disks only start
a version of DOS. This is not practical if you
are trying to fix XP - you need the desktop
system on screen.
Here's how to create a boot / start up disk that
will start XP fully and bring up the XP desktop.
Format a floppy disk using XP.
In my
computer, select "C" or whichever drive
XP is on. Copy Boot.ini, ntdetect.com and
NTLDR files to the floppy. If bootsect.dos
or ntbootdd.sys are present, copy them also.
You may need to switch off "hide system files"
in the tools -folder options menu of the my computer window.
That's it. Try it out. Make sure your PC is set to boot from a floppy before the hard drive.
