What to do if your external USB drive doesn't appear as an icon in MY Computer Window (windows 98).
If your USB external drive (flashdrive, portable, hard drive etc.) doesn't appear in my computer but it is properly installed (drivers etc.), here's what to do.
Go to device manager, click on disk drives, highlight the external drive, right click and choose properties.
Click through the tabs on the window until you see a window with a tick box with "removable drive" beside it.
Tick the box for removable drive, and choose a drive letter for it like H or K.
Click apply or OK.
Check if it is now shown as an icon in My Computer. If not re-boot (if windows hasn't requested this already).
